Mengenalkan Bentuk Geometri Pada Anak Usia Dini Melalui Media Aksi Roda Berputar

Abstract

It is important to introduce children to geometric shapes at an early age because many objects in their surroundings possess geometric forms. An understanding of geometry helps children recognize and comprehend the environment around them. Children are more likely to engage with geometry when they are actively involved in individual and group activities related to geometric concepts—such as classifying and identifying the geometric shapes found in everyday objects. This study focuses on the use of a "spinning wheel" learning aid to teach geometric shapes, as well as the children's responses and level of enthusiasm regarding this tool. A descriptive qualitative approach utilizing a case study method was employed. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The study participants comprised students, parents, the class teacher, and the principal of RA AL Hidayah. The collected data were analyzed descriptively through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The results indicate that the children spun the wheel, named the indicated shape, and then linked it to objects in their surroundings. This method proved effective in enhancing the children's active participation and their understanding of geometric shapes. The children appeared enthusiastic and confident when given the opportunity to spin the wheel and answer questions about the shapes. The teacher also acknowledged that this learning aid increased student engagement, particularly among children who were typically passive.
